迷いクジラ、動かず衰弱…和歌山の湾内に２週間 : ニュース : 関西発 : YOMIURI ONLINE（読売新聞） 和歌山県田辺市の内之浦湾に大型のマッコウクジラ（体長約１６メートル）が迷い込んでから２８日で２週間。同市は対策本部を設置し、外洋へ逃がすため、様々な方法を試みたが、効果はなかった。今では浅瀬でほとんど動かず、体もやせてきた。市の関係者は「できることはなく、見守るしかない」と話している。 クジラは１４日朝に見つかった。当初は、周囲約３・６キロの湾内を潮を吹きながら移動していたが、１週間前から同湾の最も奥まった浅瀬にとどまっている。 田辺市は水産庁と対策を協議。船から鉄パイプをたたいて大きな音を立てたり、クジラが餌を取る時の音声を流したりして、外洋へ誘導しようとしたが、クジラはほとんど反応しなかった。 同庁から現地にアドバイザーとして派遣された日本鯨類研究所（東京）の石川創次長は「内耳に寄生虫が入るなどして方向感覚を失った可能性がある」と話す。 マッコウクジラの餌は主にイカで毎日、体重の４％の重さの量が必要。石川次長によると、迷い込んだクジラの体重は推定で約５０トン。計算上、１日の餌は約２トンになる。しかし、この２週間、何も食べていないためか、背骨が浮かび上がるほどやせているという。 対策本部長を務める福井量規(かずのり)・市産業部長は「かわいそうだが、忍耐強く見守り、自然の摂理にまかせるしかない」と話す。 （2009年5月28日 読売新聞）
